ABOUT RYAN
RYAN EDWARDS - STRENGTH & POWERLIFTING COACH
Who I Am
I’ve spent most of my life coaching in one form or another, long before I ever set foot on a powerlifting platform. I started coaching as a teenager in martial arts, and even then, I was fascinated by what made people move well, learn fast, and perform under pressure.
That early experience shaped how I coach today: understand the person first, then build everything else around them.
My Coaching Background
Over the past eight years, I’ve dedicated my career to coaching lifters of all levels, from complete beginners learning how to train properly to competitive athletes refining the smallest details of their performance.
I work with people training for confidence, health, strength, and structure, and I also coach athletes who want to compete and perform at a high level. The common thread is always the same: progress comes from training that is personal, purposeful, and repeatable.
How I Coach
I don’t want people to just follow a programme. I want them to understand what they’re doing and why it matters.
That means building lifters who can:
-
train with intent, not guesswork
-
adjust intelligently when life gets busy
-
develop confidence under load
-
improve technically over time
-
stay consistent for years, not weeks
My coaching process is built around structure, communication, and precision. Every block, session, and adjustment has intent behind it. I look beyond the numbers and consider fatigue, psychology, readiness, and long-term development.
Strength is more than a total. It’s the ability to keep showing up, learning, and improving through the process.
Why I Built Gloucestershire Powerlifting
Alongside RE Coaching, I built Gloucestershire Powerlifting to give local lifters something most people never get access to: a coached environment where you can train properly, be supported, and progress with confidence.
This club isn’t about who’s strongest in the room. It’s about raising the standard of training locally, creating a welcoming culture, and giving lifters the structure and community that makes long-term progress possible.
In every session:
-
standards matter
-
coaching is hands-on
-
training is scaled to the individual
-
and people are supported, regardless of experience
Whether you’re walking into your first powerlifting session or refining details for a competition total, you should feel like you belong here, and you should leave knowing exactly what you’re working towards.
What You Can Expect
Coaching, for me, has always been about more than lifting. It’s about guiding people to realise what they’re capable of, and giving them the structure, education, and accountability to get there.
Gloucestershire Powerlifting exists for lifters who want to train with purpose, improve consistently, and enjoy the process in a club environment that supports them every step of the way.
